The Storied History and Allureof the Monte-Carlo Casino
The Casino de Monte-Carlo has been a fixture in Monaco’s history for centuries, with its glamorous and exclusive atmosphere drawing visitors from all over the world. The casino itself captures the majesty and mystery of Monte- Carlo. Our Silks designer Jérôme Faillant-Dumas drew inspiration from, and captured its storied facade in the background motif of the Casino Silk by Grace de Monaco.
This iconic landmark was built by Parisian architect Gobineau de la Bretonnerie and opened in 1865. In 1875, the spectacular building was transformed and expanded to include the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, designed by renowned architect Charles Garnier. It also houses Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the classical ballet company established in 1985 by Princess Caroline of Monaco to honor the wishes of her mother Princess Grace.
The Age of Glamour
Beautifully constructed in the Belle Époque style of architecture, the casino is an absolute work of art, representing the grandeur of this golden age of cultural and artistic prosperity. The distinctive style combines elegance and sophistication with the exterior facade being just as striking as the interior. Inside, intricate stained glass windows, ornate sculptures and dramatic chandeliers add to the impressive atmosphere while sprawling gardens and terraces contribute to the idyllic outdoor setting.
Hollywood Moments
In addition to its architectural marvels, the casino’s rich cultural heritage is a major draw. Since it first opened, the Casino de Monte-Carlo has hosted royalty, global dignitaries and celebrities alike. Its breathtaking design has been an inspiration for other casinos as well as being a popular backdrop for films and music videos. Fictional British spy James Bond is often associated with the famous gambling house, and a number of the 007 movies were filmed on location in Monaco and its casino.
In 2021, H.S.H. Prince Albert II along with the Princess Grace Foundation, hosted the second world premiere of “No Time To Die”, the 25th chapter of the James Bond movie franchise, which was also directed by Princess Grace Award winner Cary Joji Fukunaga. The glamorous red carpet event and screening took place at the Casino de Monte-Carlo and honored the late Sir Roger Moore, who was also a dear friend of Princess Grace. The movie screened in the Opera Hous ce (Salle Garnier), where the scent of Promenade Sur Le Rocher wafted through the air.

All Grace de Monaco products include archetypal design elements associated with Princess Grace and Monaco. Jérôme Faillant-Dumas wanted the iconic symbol of Monaco’s nightlife to discreetly adorn our luxurious Casino Silk. Gold floral elements border the scarf, paying homage to the natural beauty of the French Riviera and Princess Grace’s love of flowers. All of our silks are screened and finished by hand in Italy, using time-honored craftmanship techniques.
