What it is 

Patchouli is a fragrant flowering plant native to Southeast Asia and belonging to the mint family. Essential oil is derived from the plant’s dried leaves through steam distillation —enhancing its earthy, woody, and slightly sweet profile. A unique characteristic of patchouli is its ability to mature—much like a fine wine, its aroma becomes smoother and more complex as it ages.  Patchouli has an illustrious past, dating back to ancient trade routes and the opulent courts of Europe. Dried patchouli leaves were once packed with fine silks to ward off moths, infusing the fabrics with an earthy, woody aroma. This association with luxury led to its early adoption in perfumery, and by the 19th century, patchouli was prized for its grounding and sensual quality.  

How it smells 

Patchouli has a unique scent profile.  Despite its flowery appearance, its aroma is a blend of earthiness, woody warmth, and a hint of smokiness—that evolves beautifully over time.
